Quotes and Sayings

What are your favorite sayings or quotes? They may be from any source, funny or serious! You also may or may not add why you find a saying meaningful or funny. Let me start with a funny quote by Michael Scott (Steve Carell) in one of The Office episodes: “You may look around, and see two groups here. White collar, blue collar. But I don’t see it that way. You know why not? Because I am collar-blind.” Why it’s funny? Because the way Michael tries to make a joke out of the sentence while still trying to ’send out a message’ to his co-workers is just genious, plus the fact that it actually is something I find important: making no difference between people in rank or level.

Feeling down? Wakeup call!

Sometimes you feel down, but you don’t know why… or you feel down because something happened that upset you. This topic is to write down why you should not be feeling down or just to give yourself a slap in the face to brighten up and feel better. Example: I am worrying about something that isnt that of a big deal, who is he to say that about me, like I’m going to stress about someone else telling I suck or something, pff I’d rather spend my energy in something else! Don’t take stuff so personal, he’s probably agitated cause he knows he sucks more irl then I do lol :P See, this way you don’t tell everyone what happened exactly, or which person you met, etc, but still you are motivating yourself to brighten up. Of course you may do so, but this way it can be easier for people to write stuff down without feeling shy or telling stuff that’s too personal for you.

My friends said I look stoned all the time, pls help..

Ok the last time I get stoned was half year ago, and I only get drunk during the weekends. But I have been being asked are you high or drunk during the day time. So what I have been trying to do these few days is to purposely open my eyes in front of people and that’s really tiring for me. I just want to know does anyone have similar problem. This ain’t funny and don’t laugh at me being Asian and have chinky eyes. I will be really mad and sad if you do, not really but try to be nicer pls..Also sorry for my broken English..

What’s your AWESOME STORY?

This is the thread of SUCCESS! The thread of AWESOME! The thread of shouting YES, THIS IS LIFE! This is the thread for your stories of awesome things you’ve done recently. I know you’ve all done em. Big or small, we at I Power do awesome shit! THE SUPER EPIC PWNAGE RULES OF THE THREAD: Title your story something that conveys its epic awesomeness as well as the subject of the story. NO negative comments, no criticisms, no judgement. There is a place for all of those but it is not here! This is the THREAD OF WIN! Stories can be any length, and can be about any awesome action no matter how small. Smiling at a stranger is an awesome action and is the kind of thing that BELONGS IN THIS THREAD! They can be long stories too, like how you spent 6 months training to run a marathon and then you did it! Basically, ANYTHING AWESOME GOES! MY STORY, THE BIKE RIDE OF UNEXPECTED EPIC WIN!: A few hours ago I was talking to my dad about the Coast to Coast cycle ride we are planning to do this summer (I haven’t started training for it yet), and he told me “well go for a bike ride then!” SO I F***ING DID! I was thinking it would be dark soon so I would go for a few miles then turn around. I set off, getting used to the bike I hadn’t ridden before (mine is currently broken so I used my dads) was feeling the initial “urgh!” after about 15 minutes and felt like turning back but I KEPT ON GOING B****EZ! I went down the first down hill, my eyes watering with the cold wind, loving every second of it. I turned the corner and started peddling, cycled for awhile on the flat, thinking about my martial arts training and the confidence I have gained because of it. I passed a father and son cycling and greeted them smilingly. They didn’t seem too happy, I do not know why! Crazy people! I then got to the first proper hill! I peddled hard, fighting my way up. I got halfway and stopped, catching my breath. I turned my bike around, thinking I would never be able to walk tomorrow if I went to the top of this hill. NO, WAIT A SECOND. I AM AWESOME. OF COURSE I WILL GET UP THIS HILL. I turned my bike around again. heading for the top of the hill that was marked by a signpost. I reached it, and spotted a large tree further down the road. So I rode to that, my legs burning. Then I saw a barn and rode to that, and stopped for 2 minutes to catch my breath. This is where I finally decided to turn around - not in defeat, but in victory! I glided down the hill I had just conquered, revelling in my speed and power. After some more flat, I reached the down hill I went down before. BUT WAIT, NOW IT WAS AN UP HILL! BRING IT ON, I SHALL DEFEAT YOU ALSO! This was not a battle any longer, not a question of whether I could do it, merely a fast ride to my inevitable success. It grew harder as I reached the top. I kept focusing on the point I had chosen as the top of the hill where I would stop for a second before continuing the ride. I changed gear and OH NO, THE PEDDLES STOP GOING ROUND! CHAIN FAILURE! BUT NOT TO WORRY! I jump off my bike and run with it up the last quarter of the hill, the steepest section. I reach the top and stop to fix my chain, then carry on riding. The rest is easy, gentle downhill and I take my hands off the handlebars and relax, relishing my victory, soaring home where delicious cold water, beans and vegetarian sausages await. Upon arriving home I tell the tale of my ride to my mother and brother, and go to look up the route I took on Google Maps. It turns out I rode 11 miles, when I thought I’d done about 5. UNEXPECTED EPIC WIN! Now, I WANT YOUR AWESOME STORY!

Religions, Gods and Supermassive Black Holes

No flaming and no insulting in this thread! ——————————————————————— Religion..God..Evolution..Life.. We know so little about it, but its impact on our lives is major. You can not deny this, even if you ‘ don’t believe ‘. Wars are fought, Peace is found, Laws are made, Societies are built because of religion and beliefs. ‘There’s this guy ‘God’, he made all the dinosaurs, all the stars and everything that exists. So who made God? Where did he come from, there can’t be nothing and then theres something? Did he just start to exist out of nothing? That’s like making One out of Zero. If it exists, its existence had to start somewhere, right? If there’s this ‘God’, why were people like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Fritzl or Cameron Hooker ever born? Are these tests for humankind itself? Would God be a man or a woman, or is he an animal maybe?’ What would be your answers to these questions… can we answer them? I consider myself being agnostic, on paper I’m a Roman Catholic. Why agnost, not atheist?…. because I believe we just don’t know enough to either deny or confirm this ‘higher spirit’ or ’source’ I go to church maybe once a year, last year, the only time when I went there was when someone I knew for a long time passed away all suddenly from one day to another. It felt like getting a sledgehammer in your stomach, I never had to be on such event before and it messed my brains up. Are our loved ones in heaven or another form of afterlife, do they return in another form in space, where do the souls of our family and friends go to when they pass away? The mind is a very complicated thing… We have our bodies, but we also have our mind. We can burn the body, we can destroy the body, but where will the mind, the soul be? Does the soul consist of energy? if so, we exist forever. But is there such a thing as forever? Gravity will pull everything together, super massive black holes feed on galaxies, galaxies collide with each other, produce energy out of matter, merge, etc. Nothing can be gone then right? Imagine you trow an atom bomb on a planet. The matter of which the atom bomb and the planet exist is turned into smaller particles of matter and energy.. it can’t be turned into ‘nothing’ right? Just like something can be turned out of nothing, how can something be turned into nothing? With this in mind, would you rather like to know the answer to ‘Is there a god?’ or ‘Where did everything come from?’ I think the last one is more important then knowing if there’s a god at all.. because if you know the answer to where he would come from, then you know if there can be one… What if you asked the question and you would get the answer, the definite answer: ‘yes there’s a god’… what would happen with society, humankind… I wonder. Maybe there’s again a better question ‘What is god?’… Imagine there’s a definite answer again ‘God is a Christian spirit’ or ‘God is Allah’… what would happen? What if there was just 1 religion? What are they core purposes of religions? Almost everything in this topic ended as a question and I don’t want to count the amount of ‘maybe’s’ I used. Maybe because we can’t answer them… Maybe … if we would worry more about getting together, loving each other, the world would be a better place. :-)

Ning going paid-only

There is a blogpost on ning blog generally stating that ning as a free service will cease to exist: http://blog.ning.com/2010/04/an-update-from-ning.html So I’m starting to wonder how this will affect I Power. Could someone competent (maybe Reese?) tell us a bit more about this? Should we start to worry? Prepare to migrate somewhere else? There will be more info about this on May 4th, but I think we should be prepared.

The IMPORTANCE of EDUCATION

Education is an important component of life because it is a self-enlightening process. But for different people it’s not the same!   When I started thinking about ‘why education is so important’ I remembered my school years, the grounding years of anyone’s education. I went down memory lane to remember all my teachers, my school subjects, the study and the play. I never really hated school. But I have seen many who initially hated going schools and kept on repenting later on. I can dare say-i love it:) But i had some friends who did not like the idea of studying in classrooms. Many of us must have unwillingly entered our school gates. But all of us know that this dislike never lasts long. We soon start loving school and it is when it is time to leave school that we are in tears.                  So is the education important for you? What do you think about your school/college ? Do u hate/love it and why?             It’s interesting to know your opinions guys. Thanks beforehand:)
